Eduardo Romero Tagle, Senior Associate of Thomas H. Curran Associates, participated in the 7th Annual Integration Symposium, hosted by the SMU Mission Foods Texas-Mexico Center in Dallas on Thursday, October 19th.
The event took place to analyze the current challenges and opportunities of the Texas-Mexico relationship, especially regarding international trade and strategic industries in North America. Among other speakers, the event had the participation of the Ambassador of Mexico in the U.S., College professors, attorneys that were directly involved in the negotiation of the current trade treaties, and partners of international Law Firms.
Eduardo intervened in the panel concerning the disputes resolution model created by USMCA, in which he analyzed the legal dispute between Mexico and the U.S. regarding the automobile sector, as well as the GMO corn importation dispute that is currently arising between the two countries. Eduardo explained how this type of disputes involve not only legal aspects, but also financial and mostly political implications, and thus, the active collaboration and negotiation between Mexico, the U.S., and Canada, is fundamental for a proper compliance with the arbitral decisions adopted under USMCA. Eduardo further exposed how the treaty, besides its arbitral resolution model, can also be used under domestic law to pursue legal actions by companies that have suffered from the importation prohibitions in North America.
