After a Johnson and Johnson subsidiary filed for bankruptcy, a New Jersey Bankruptcy Judge ordered expert Kenneth Feinberg to assess the number and value of about 38,000 lawsuits against J&J. These lawsuits allege that J&J’s talc products caused ovarian cancer and mesothelioma. Plaintiffs further allege that the subsidiary filed for bankruptcy in bad faith in an attempt to block lawsuits against J&J.
J&J has denied the talc plaintiffs’ allegations, saying decades of scientific testing and regulatory approvals have shown its talc to be safe.
